My husband and I initially started out applying for IA in China. Soon after all of our paperwork was in China, the agency said the expected wait was going from 3 years to 7 years.
We then decided to apply for domestic adoption and updated our homestudy with our social worker. After the update, the agency said that in order for our homestudy to be released we would have to pay post placement fee and additional "copy fee". This is all before a match has even taken place and they are not lawyer/agency handling that. Has anyone experienced this? Is it possible to switch to another agency without starting all over?
We are just starting the process as well but we didn't have to pay the post placement fees up front. We paid for the homestudy and then don't pay again until we are matched. If your homestudy is approved I would check with other agencies to see if they will accept it. From what I've read on this site from others we should be leary of paying a lot of upfront fees. If you decide to switch later you will probably loose all of your money.
It just seems strange that they want money for something they haven't done yet.

Thank you!! After some more investigating, it seems to be more work and money to switch agencies. Thank you for your responses. Wish you both the best!!
