You might check with the teacher and ask - but there are a lot of active songs that teachers do with preschoolers that involve imitating various animals.

Absolutely...we do tons of 'acting' like animal songs at my preschool and I always include the monkey, because it's an easy one for preschoolers to do.

She probably did learn it in school. I used to work with all ages in daycare. And we did various songs, activites with animals. A big on was over the summer we made the classroom look like a jungle with the kids art work and made monkeys out of paper plates! My dad is very sensitive about my kids pretending to me monkeys. (he hates that my sons nickname is monkey but he CLIMBS EVERYTHING and always has) And I get it that but should we really discourage a childs creativity and imagination because of the past? I remember as a child coming home pretending to be a monkey after playing on the monkey bars at school and my dad FLIPPED out, I had no clue that it had a racial undertone.
