We have to travel Atlanta when our mom goes into labor. Other then Dec. 5th which is some SEC game we should have no trouble finding a hotel (I already booked a room JIC it happens then).
We have a friend in Dalcua that said we could stay with them after the baby is born. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. It's cheaper yes, but I'm worried about imposing on a family (who have a 4 year old) with a newborn that wakes up every two hours.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Do you know of hotels that give adoption discounts?
Also I have a travel bed that I plan on putting M. in. Do you think that is ok? I'm worried about hotel cribs being safe.

Make sure to tell them at the front desk that you are in the city to do an adoption. I just got home 2 weeks ago from spending 3 weeks in Texas at a Candlewood Suites. When I told the front desk why I was there and for an indefinite period they reduced my online rate from 89 a night to 49 a night

If you go the hotel route. Spots like the Residence Inns are nice, suite like with kitchens, even down to the breakfast and theme snacks/buffet in the evenings. Always a better option to have a suite with a kitchen with a little one. Nice if one cannot get out of the hotel. Especially if they are newly built. I have issues with old hotels lol
If you are going to Atlanta, can I assume the baby is going to be born at Northside Hospital -- the baby factory? If so, we live nearby and there is a Residence Inn very close.
I guess it gets down to your comfort level, how well you know your friend, etc. I, personally, would prefer a hotel so with the occassional visit with friends, but that's just me. You will certainly need open access to a fridge and a stove/microwave. As for sleeping, we used her car seat because she seems more comfortable there than in the pack n play the hotel provided. And she was soooooo tiny that it made us feel better, too.
Good luck and let me know if you want help with local resources.
Not sure what part of town you will be in, but there is a Residence Inn in the Cumberland Mall area and also one in the Perimeter Mall area. Both are great areas with lots of conveniences and great access to the interstates. My preference is the Cumberland Mall area - not as congested. The other option I would suggest is going to the HomeAway Vacation Rentals: Beach Houses, Condos, Cabins, Villas & Vacation Rental Homes website. Even if there is some huge event in Atlanta and you get locked out of hotels, this can be a great alternative with much lower costs than a hotel. I used this site when visiting LA and booked a gorgeous condo on Sunset Blvd. I saved about 50%, and had nicer accomodations.

Contact the Ronald McDonald House in that area. IF they have vacancies, RM houses are open to families who are adopting and needing a place to stay. (We had to use one for 45 days.....three kids, our new baby and myself. DH had to leave to go back to work!)
As for where to sleep......purchase an in-bed-co-sleeper (KMart and Target carry them)...... Good to use for putting her IN bed with you (assuming a queen size so large enough for you only and the baby next to you)......and preferably butted up against the wall. OR, consider putting her in a portable type bassinet. (One that folds down, or one that's just the main basket, no stand.)
We've adopted out of state more than once and the co-sleeper was the way to go for us. I'm not a fan of pack n plays for itty-bitty babies, so I understand your feeling on this. BUT---in our case, staying at the RMH in their nursery suite was wonderful. The crib was 'top drawer' as were the accomodations. I'm certain you'll find the number of the nearest one from a Google search.
Good luck...and *I* fully understand your concerns!
Sincerely,
Linny
When we had to fly (for Ty) I used a club chair with the front pushed against the wall. He was quite happy in there. I know people have used drawers and even just laid baby on the floor in safe place while traveling. We were fully prepared to just wing it and head to walmart if we needed something.
We drove for Matty so I just brought a pack and play.
