Has anyone adopted (or in the process of) from Latvia recently? I'd really like to hear about your experience in relation to time frames, dealing with governmental bodies etc.
Thanks in advance.
The Latvian govt actually keeps a very updated web site with information on their adoption stats. You can see how many international dossiers are pending (some go back as far as 2004) and for what age ranges of children are requested. lm.gov.lv/text/1111
also provide months stats for the number of children free for adoption and registered and referrals offered (by the numbers only - no actual identifying details). lm.gov.lv/text/1900
Since Dec. 2010, The govt will only accept international dossiers for those who are requesting to adopt a child older than 9, or who is part of a sibling group of 3 or more, or has a serious special need.
There are several US based agencies who have hosting programs from Latvia.
