My 13-yr-old can't walk past a TV or eat her meal at a restaurant without staring at the TV, tuning out everything around her. And it doesn't matter how boring or inconsequential the image on the TV is, she stares at it.
Just now walking to the bathroom (restaurant) she stared at sports scores and the end of a deodorant ad (where the deodorants are on the screens showing you the various scents, no mOvement. Almost ran into a table!
I understand that flashing images are like magnets to kids with ADHD (maybe ALL kids), but why these still images, too? She would never sit and READ a sports or news magazine, but she'll stare at talking heads (that she can't hear) and sports scores on TV.
Anybody know what drives this?
i have 2 sons and 1 husband who are the same way. lol. my dh has joked he has adhd, and we know for sure 1 of our sons does....most likely the other as well. i have read before that pixels attract them. my middle kid could not sit still for much longer than a few minutes at a time, but he could watch back to back movies for HOURS on end and never move. i don't know what drives it exactly, but i do know that if i want to communicate something and it is on, i have to turn it off...even for dh. lol.

;) I admit I'm the same way with my favorite DIY-type programs (my husband jokes about wanting my eye contact to ensure I'm listening), but honestly I don't get the draw to a screen of scores.
She's fascinated with my husband's cell when he's reading his work e-mails or texting his boss. (She'll try to read over his shoulder. NOT cool, and he lets her know.) I'm thinking somehow these are related---technology obsession maybe? (Now THAT sounds like MY husband!)
