Hello, I am trying to help my Godmother find her adopted Son. He was born in 1972 in Southend on Sea and we dont have his new surname.
Can anyone help to point us in the right direction?
Thanks,
Jo
Due to the change of law on the 30th December 2005 your godmother can legally search for her son.
She should go to the adoption agency or social services that he was adopted through. If an adoption agency was used but no longer exists she should go through social services. Alternatively she can contact:
The Access to Records Co-ordinator,
Essex Social Care,
PO Box 297,
County Hall,
Chelmsford,
Essex CM1 1YS
or
The Adoption Resource Centre,
Essex Social Care,
Eckard House,
Easton Road,
Witham CM8 2DW
The Adoption Resource Centre are very helpful and they helped me when I requested information.
Your godmother will be able to get any information relevant to herself and advice on searching.
