Our I-600A was just approved and our dossier is being translated into Ukrainian. While we're waiting, we're trying to plan for our trip over there.
We heard it's a good idea to take small gifts for the orphanage and the children there. What has anyone who's already been there given as gifts?

We adopted several years ago. What we did was have our translator/facilitator ask what the orphanage needed? They needed medicine for the children, so my husband and the faciltator /translator went to the drug store and purchased a long list or medicine. We pooled our money with another couple using our same agency. I think each couple spent around $100. We didnot not give the children gifts.....you would not believe the toys they had. I later sent with another family traveling to the same orphanage, many hats, mittens, gloves.
We gave cash with a hand written thank you note in many circumstances to workers and directors..NOT judges or government workers as this was seen as a bribe.

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a great idea to ask the facilitator what the orphanage needs, especially for necessary things like medicine.
