SO how long should it take to get the kids names changed? it's been almost 3 months since finalization and their names are still their original oens. So the dr continues to call them by their first names because they have to bill under that name......so confusing.
we've been using their new names informally since last dec when tpr occured. why oh why cant' they get the names changed? and why oh why can't they get me listed as the point of contact rather than their first foster mom they lived iwth for 5 months over three and a half years ago?"??? I asked two years ago to have my name put on and the first FM name removed....so i can't call and ask questions about MY kids coverage or anything else....
and of couse the CW and her superviser won't return my call and the state office said they can't help me.
Ours was changed the day of the adoption. At the adoption ceremony we were given her new medicaid number. That being said, a couple of the specialists wanted extra documentation of the name change. They miraculously changed their minds about needing it when they attempted to bill medicaid under her old number and found that they couldn't be paid because her name and number had been changed.

That is really unfortunate that your doctor can't get it right. I'd suggest that you talk to him and consider switching doctors if he is not accomodating. Chubbs' pediatrician had noted his file once I got permission to call him his new name and even though everything was still in his legal name, they referred to him by his new name. I was pretty impressed with that.
Our medicaid was all switched over by the subsidy person. Since we had some last minute subsidy issues, it did take about a month after finalization. I am sure it varies by state. For example, it took I believe 3 months to get his new birth certificate because our county has only one group that processes all BC and death certificates for the entire state.
And as for calling the previous foster mom after all this time, I go back to paragraph one, if they can't accomodate, consider changing peds, if that is possible.
I had to have a few different conversations with the human resource department of our local medical center because they would not or could not keep my sons name correct and billling correct. They would cancel appointments with us because they would run the wrong numbers and they would come up invalid or have the wrong doctor on them. I finally had to use my not nice voice to take care of the situation.
Then to have them try and bill my daughters medical card that she hadn't used in over three years and was under her birth name. I just keep telling myself that they are the ones commiting fraud not me. I have been perfectly clear with them about the situation.
My doctor herself is amazing and the only reason that I continued to go there was because of her.

all of their weekly therapists use their new names, but my bigger issues i s having to sign in the old names. and my biggest issue is not having access to ask questions to medicaid because i'mnot listed as a point of contact or MOM! ugh. CW said the cases weren't closed out onthe computer though they are closed in the eyes of the court. hubby said maybe it has to do with funding, number of cases, or something, but seriously close the blasted case!
Wow...we got a certified copy of the Adoption Decree within a couple days and the new birth certificates just arrived a couple days ago(meaning it took about two weeks!) along with the new medical cards! We were told it would take 4-6 weeks...but, not in our case! Sorry for the delay!
