My daughters "father" has never been in her life. Not for any other reason than he chooses not to be. She knows about him but has only met him twice (once as a baby and then again 2 years ago). My husband is the only father she has ever known. He has wanted to adopt her and we've talked about it through the years. She is almost 13 years old and recently REQUESTED that he adopt her. Her bio father has no objections and is on the run from law enforcement in Canada. Do we really need an attorney? There is no contesting and he's out of the country?! I've been quoted $5000 for attorney fees which is not possible. I'm curious if anyone else knows if it can be done without an attorney and if so, any information would be greatly appreciated!
