I read this article and wondered if anyone had participated in any of these tips? Adoptees are prone to being curious about where they came from/ history. What experiences do you have? What are some ways you have helped your adoptee to understand and/or learn about their history?
Crystal,
I was adopted and I have also adopted my step children, I firmly believe that as much information as you can provide without getting into the gory details is helpful. You do have to tailor the information to the age of the child. I knew from as early as I could remember that I was adopted and it certainly did not cause me to love my adoptive parents any less and has given me a unique view of the world which allows me to empathize with more people than I would've otherwise. Health information if you have it is crucial and any stories about the birth parents are helpful.
