Niece was invited to her Aunt's house (not related to me) for Christmas and I said yes...then this morning she finds out her parents are going to be there. She decides not to go and tells her Aunt that she does not want to see parents. Then I get a long and rambling text from other Aunt saying how I have no right to keep Niece from seeing her parents and I'm "overstepping." Excuse me? 1) I'm her legal guardian and I have every right, 2) Niece is the one who made the decision, and 3) despite having all of Niece's contact information, her "parents" haven't tried to contact her in over a year.
Secondarily, I am so angry because this was not a last minute "parents are just showing up" thing. They're flying in from out of state around Christmas - this must have been planned and sprung on us today. Niece is crying because she wanted to see her relatives and I am fuming.
Just wanted to vent.
