I speak both English and Spanish fluently and was raised in a home where both languages were used constantly. My husband speaks English and is learning Spanish. What do you all recommend we do to teach our children Spanish in a way that will not confuse them. They will be surrounded by english in school and everywhere else, but I really want to facilitate their learning as well as my husbands. What can we do?
Hi Alexsa - my brother (American) married a Nicaraguan and for the first decade or so they pretty much just spoke Spanish in the home. Everywhere else, they were surrounded by English. My brother already spoke Spanish, so that was easier than it would be in your home ... but I bet your husband would catch on pretty fast if you did something similar! Of course, vital conversations would have to take place in English in order to stay cohesive ... but after several months I bet that could change. What a fun adventure! Good luck!
