I am a social work student and a very outspoken advocate for adoption. Because of these two passions of mine, I spend a lot of time listening to really difficult stories, offering my help and support when I can. However, from time to time, I find myself feeling burned out on compassion. I feel almost numb to the stories of others, and I don't like that. There is a difference between finding a good work/life balance and exhausting oneself emotionally. What are some good ways to combat the burnout?
