Hi all. My husband and I are in the state of Indiana. We are in the process of becoming dual licensed so we can foster to adopt. My husband grew up in a slightly abusive household with an alcoholic father. My husband was a drug addict from the age of 12 to 19. He has been clean for 10 years now. Do any of you have any experience with situations like this? Will his past affect our ability to get a child? I'd love to hear any insights you might have.

No experience but in NY, they look at the criminal past and child abuse history. Your husband may want to tell your worker about the abuse so he/she's aware but since he's clean, it shouldn't be a problem.

Honesty is always the best policy, but it sounds like you already got it handled. Your social worker shouldn't be looking for ways to fail you and your husband. Good luck!
