I am 26 years old and I am getting married and i would like to ask my sister's dad to adopt me and legally be my dad. I don't know my biological father but technically i do not have one since i don't have a father on my birth certificate the only parent on it is my mom. so I was wondering what I need to do to get my sister's dad name on my birth certificate and legally be my dad. like what paperwork or who do i talk to to get this going or where do i go?
I thought this old thread might be of use: https://adoption.com/forums/thread/160473/step-par...
I would highly recommend consulting with an attorney that has completed stepparent adoptions. Your birth father, though he is not listed, may still need to have the rights terminated. However, given your age and his lack of presence in your life, that shouldn't be hard. I think you have to file to terminate 'unknown father' rights.
Good luck!
