Sharing vacation time

My son is planning to stay with my birth mom for Spring Break about eight hours from where I live. My birth father passed away, but his mom and brother live in that same area. I'm thinking of asking my mom to let him stay with my dad's family for a day. I feel that might be inconsiderate though. What do you usually do for sharing the kids for holidays?

I think one day,or at least a few hours, would be alright. I'm sure she knows how important it is for both of you to have a connection to your biological roots, since she has a relationship with you. It might be a little awkward asking but I'm sure she'll understand.
