I am an adoptee. I have been diving pretty deep into the world of original birth certificates. I am 35 and until about a year ago, I didn't know there was such a thing. I thought for all the kids adopted at birth, the adoptive parents names were used. When I found out, I was mad that the original document was public record and then they took it and changed it. From my perspective, getting an OBC is about way more that finding birth family. It's about learning heritage too. My adopted sister grew up thinking she was Italian, when she is in fact Hispanic. If she had her OBC she would have known that even if she chose not to locate her birth family. As birth parents, what are your thought on this topic? Are you for or against opening the records?
