I kind of have mixed feelings on the subject of stepparent adoption. You see on movies where the new stepparent comes in and takes over the role for a parent who is absent or doing a terrible job. In real life things are not always black and white. In some instances a parent just wants to create a new family even if the other parent is sincerely trying. I am a stepmother, but way before that I was I girlfriend to a man with three kids. The divorce was incredibly messy and the stepfather wanted to adopt them. My husband just wanted to make it all stop and make the kids happy so he was considering it. I told him if he signed away his rights, he wasn't the type of man I thought he was. Thirteen years later I'm glad he didn't, but I also realize how complicated things can be. What are your thoughts on the subject?
