Hello! My husband and I have a potential match with an as-yet unborn kiddo who was exposed to cocaine (1-2g/week for 16 weeks) and some alcohol (2 glasses wine/month for 16 weeks), and continues to be exposed to cigarettes (1 pack/day, and then e-cigarettes since 16 weeks). We are at the very beginning of our adoption journey so in no rush to say 'yes!' right away, but are also unsure about the risks associated with this level of exposure in utero. My husband is a doctor and I am an education researcher, so we have been spending a lot of time trying to understand the research, but any first hand insights/experience would also be appreciated. Thank you!
Hello Celia,
One of my children had similar kinds and levels of exposure. She's now an adult, university graduate, all-around grounded and terrific person.
If this is still an active question, let me know and I could talk about early issues, etc.
