Over 10 years ago I was convicted of two DUIs right in a row. I was 21, and irresponsible. My friend had committed suicide in my apartment and I did not know how to healthily cope. I am now married, have my master’s in economics, and about to be admitted to dental school. We own our home outright, and are financially stable. My husband works from home so there will always be a parent at home. I went to court ordered rehab for 6 months. It was more a situational behavioral issue rather than a full blown addiction. The therapy I received taught me healthy coping mechanisms when tragedy strikes. I never drank much before my DUIs nor do I currently. Just curious on some opinions.
