After 42 years of being a foster mother to more than 100 children, Jackie Swain said that it’s “as natural as breathing.” But, that doesn’t mean it’s been easy.

Jackie promised her husband that when she retired from work, she would also retire from foster care. And that day has come. She began fostering children when she was just 25. And she learned quickly the most important qualification to be a good foster parent is love.

“It’s all about giving. And if you want to become a foster parent, it’s a give-give situation, so don’t look for anything else out of it but the enjoyment of seeing the kids grow.” Having much love reciprocated, many of Jackie’s foster children have gathered to celebrate her incredible gift of giving.
