In the past two years thirteen children died while in foster care in the state of Texas. Because of this, the legislature upped the restrictions and raised requirements for foster parents. And now, there are far too few licensed foster homes. There is an abundance of foster children and not enough homes to care for them. There are currently 1,700 children in the Austin area needing foster homes with only 750 licensed foster homes. This leaves hundreds of children without a home in their area. Many children are shipped away from their home towns in order to have a safe place to live. The hope is that those who have any inkling to become foster parents will act on those seeds of desire.
