ADOPTION IN

Liberia
Liberia

The Liberian Government, because of allegations of mismanagement and corruption in the adoption process has suspended adoptions as of January 26th, 2009. In an attempt to strengthen existing laws and prevent further abuses of the system, Liberia has formed an Ad-hoc Central Adoption Authority that is working to pass adoption legislation for the safeguarding of prospective adoptive children, their birth parent(s) and prospective adoptive parents. The U.S. Embassy remains in frequent contact with Liberia, but there is no indication of when the moratorium on adoption might be lifted.
