Every year over 1,500 kids age out of foster care in the state of Texas. The statistics for success for these youth are daunting. Organizations such as Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives step in to help the transition from foster care to independent adulthood possible. A program in the Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives organization, Turning Point, has been so successful over the past 16 years, that other states are exploring the ins and outs of the program to duplicate in their respective areas. At Turning Point, youth ages 18-21 are given mentoring, employment, and housing. It is in this program that the youth are able to experience adulthood while continuing to learn how to be successful.
