Madonna and her family opened their hearts and arms to twin girls, Stella and Estere, in February. The four-year-old girls are from Malawi, Africa. Madonna has spent time in the region since 2006 sharing her compassion and altruism with the people.
In January, The Daily Mail ran an article revealing the girls’ names, race, age, and details about their life in an orphanage. Such disclosure could have put the entire adoption at risk at a time when Madonna was not yet in a position to protect them.
Madonna sued The Daily Mail for “considerable personal distress and anxiety” and for jeopardizing her adoption. She won the lawsuit and was awarded damages for the “serious invasion of privacy.” The Daily Mail will also have to cover all of the court costs associated with the case.
Madonna’s attorney said all monies from the suit will go directly to the Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery, a hospital in Malawi Madonna started over the summer.
