As more and more states see the good that comes from open birth records to adoptees, more happy reunification stories are being shared. This time, in New Jersey. With the new law, this allowed adult adoptee, Megan Keller, to access her original birth certificate and other records.

Two weeks after receiving the information, this 30-year-old police officer and mother of one made contact with her birth mother and one of her sisters. “It’s not like meeting strangers,” said Keller. What surprised Keller about her journey was how a search to know her medical history led to fulfilling relationships. With supportive adoptive parents, Keller and her 4-year-old son are growing their family each time they meet someone new. The opening of birth records has been a blessing for many. Megan Keller is one who adds her voice to that truth!
