Potential adoptive lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender parents are behind New York’s U.S. Senator Kristen Gillibrand. Senator Gillibrand has announced that she will introduce legislation that will stop the discrimination against LGBT adoptive parents.

The legislation is named The Every Child Deserves a Family Act and will prohibit all entities that receive federal funds from excluding LGBT individuals or couples from becoming foster or adoptive parents. The act will include prohibition of discrimination based on marital status, gender identity or sexual orientation. Although some states already prohibit discrimination, Gillibrand believes it is time for a consistent national policy so that more children can have forever homes.
