ADOPTION IN

Pakistan
Pakistan

Under Pakistani law, adoptions are not allowed within the country. However, this doesn’t mean that adoption isn’t possible. If a U.S. citizen wants to adopt from Pakistan, guardianship must be granted first. Once the guardianship is granted, the child can be brought to the United States and adopted officially, only if Pakistan allows the child to leave the country. Pakistani adoption/guardianship is closed to all non-Muslims. There aren’t age, marriage, or residency requirements or limits. A total of 25 Pakistani children were adopted in 2011.
