Sisters Johanna and Jamie were born in January 2002 and November 2003, respectively. Both are in very good health with typical development and they share a close emotional bond. Johanna has been diagnosed with mild cognitive delays.
Johanna is an inquisitive, social girl who shows age-appropriate gross motor and fine motor skills and good hand-eye coordination. She understands cause-and-effect relationships in everyday events, can compare and analyze, and distinguishes between good and bad. At times Johanna has difficulty comprehending questions, in which case she will often ask for clarification. She is very trusting, freely shares with others, shows no aggression or depression, and has good control of her emotions. While initially shy with new people she warms quickly. Johanna has a circle of friends and has formed an attachment to her foster mother.
During the 2016-2017 school year, Johanna is a student in 8th grade where she eagerly attends classes despite some difficulties acquiring the material. She is well-behaved, follows directions, and diligently completes both in-class assignments and homework. Johannas general performance at school has improved since placement with her foster family in 2013. Johanna loves singing and enjoys participating in performances and local competitions. She manages her hygiene independently, keeps her personal space tidy, and readily helps with household chores. Johanna has a positive attitude towards adoption.
Jamie is a joyful, athletic girl who loves sports and active games. She is well-coordinated, communicates effectively with a wide vocabulary, and has a stable attention span. Her intellectual development is within normal limits. Jamie is genuine and emotionally expressive with a positive self-image. She easily engages with others and like her sister, she has formed a strong attachment to her foster mother. Jamie strives for a leadership role among her peers and shows a tendency towards imposing her opinion on others. She has some difficulty with self-control and adhering to accepted rules of relationships and communication. Jamie recognizes that she often does things without thinking and shows a readiness to improve this behavior.
Jamie is in 7th grade in the 2016-2017 school year. Her teacher shares that while Jamie is typically a good student, her performance has declined recently, and she has also shown more difficulties in following the rules at school. Jamie dreams of becoming a rehabilitator and is encouraged and supported in this goal by her foster mother. She keeps her personal space neat, assists with chores in the home, and is making good progress with regard to personal hygiene skills. Jamie is eager to be adopted.
