- Case #Otto
Otto was born in January 2003 and has Down syndrome. He spent nearly three of the first four years of his life in a hospital ward for children with cerebral disabilities and now lives in an orphanage.
Otto is a charming, positive boy with an easy smile who quickly establishes contact with others. He is happiest when he receives individual attention and when someone plays with or cuddles him. Otto plays with toys and briefly joins group activities. He moves around on his own for short distances and can sit. Otto is nonverbal and communicates his needs mostly through touch, smiles, and sounds. He exhibits some repetitive behaviors. Otto enjoys music and attends an auxiliary school. He is entirely dependent on the care of adults, including diapering, feeding, and dressing, and he needs constant supervision. His caregivers are working on teaching him to hold a cup on his own and using the toilet. Otto is waiting for a forever family that will love him unconditionally.
