The 3 of us and Grandma

The 3 of us and Grandma

Just a little about us!

Welcome to our family!
We are the LaBerteaux’s! We are a small, close-knit family looking to grow. We appreciate your time and the opportunity to tell you about who we are.
Family is why we are writing this letter. Since we met, our goal has been to create a family.
We are Brian and Kimberly LaBerteaux and we met a little later in life. We are products of eHarmony. Yep! It worked for us! How else would someone from California meet someone from Idaho? We talked for months through email and for hours each night over the phone, before finally meeting in person. It was so fun getting to know each other, but the long distance was hard.
Brian worked with his family at their kitchen design business in California and Kimberly was teaching in Caldwell, Idaho. We met as often as we could. Trips to Disneyland (near where Brian worked), Pismo Beach and Shoshone Falls were some of our early dates. That lead to regular trips back and forth to California and Boise. Dates to many not-so-good movies and lots of evenings playing cards and dominoes followed. We got engaged after about 9 months and married later that year (crooked, collapsing wedding cake and all.)
We were both older, in our early thirties, and didn’t want to be a two-person family any longer! We said we were going to wait at least a year before trying to start our family, but couldn’t wait. We tried for a few months and miraculously got pregnant. It ended up being a difficult pregnancy for Kimberly and the baby, with Harper coming five weeks early. After the early months of her life as a preemie, Harper has since grown up to become a happy and healthy girl (who is nearly as tall as her grandma)! Despite that difficult pregnancy, we have always wanted and felt like we would be able to have another child.
We have been trying to have another child since Harper was two years old. She is now almost seven years old and no luck. We want Harper to have a little brother or sister to share everything with. Both of us have great relationships with our siblings and we know Harper will have that bond with her new sibling. We have tried many different avenues but ultimately feel like adoption is the right fit.
Kimberly is a lover of books, shopping and all things Justin Timberlake. She graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Boise State University. She have been teaching for 15 years. She has taught fifth grade, has been a reading specialist and is currently teaching fourth grade at a charter school in Meridian, Idaho.
Brian loves sports, especially baseball and hockey. Go Angels and Ducks! He also loves books, movies and is currently teaching Harper to love old school video games like The Legend of Zelda and Mario Bros. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from UC Santa Barbara in Accounting. He is the business manager for a landscaping company in Boise.
Harper is almost 7 (going on 13!) She loves everything girly but also loves to play outside and get dirty. She is in first grade and loves math and reading (well, just about everything school related.) She loves riding her scooter, practicing roller skating and is starting to learn to play the piano. She can’t wait to be the best big sister there ever! She says that she is excited to learn how to take care of a younger sibling, learn how to feed them, helping them learn to walk and play outside with them.
We have a little dog named Milo. He is a Shih Tzu that is almost 2 years old. He is so fun and great with Harper and all the kids that come to play at our house.
The majority of our time together is time is spent with family. We are blessed to have family that live close to us. We see our Idaho family regularly as we celebrate birthdays, holidays and just get to together.
Grandpa has a farm in Kuna, Idaho that has cows, pigs and chickens to feed. He loves his grandkids and enjoys being the favorite. Our Idaho siblings all have three to four kids, with many of their kids have children too, so there are lots of cousins to play with! The days spent with cousins are Harper’s favorite days!!!
We have a Christmas Eve tradition of meeting together, eating yummy food, playing games and exchanging presents each year.
The California grandparents comes to visit us about three times a year and we visit them as much as we can. Fun times are spent playing with cousins at the beach, at the park or just hanging out at grandma and grandpa’s house. We love playing card and board games, and sharing our triumphs and trials with one another.
Our little family loves spending time together. We love driving and seeing different parts of Idaho, looking at the lights at Christmas, singing in the car at the top of our lungs and visiting all the friends and family we love.
Our favorite vacation as a family so far has been Disneyland! We took Harper for the first time when she was six, the perfect age to ‘feel the magic.’ And it was magical!
We even took grandma with us. We rode many different attractions, met characters and watched in awe at all the amazing parades and shows. Some of the best moments were hearing grandma screaming while riding some of the rides and an excited Harper saying that her legs ‘feel funny’ after riding the runaway train. We went to Disneyland during the Easter season and also had a blast hunting for hidden Easter eggs throughout the park. We all talk about going back as soon as we can!
Education is also very important to us. Kimberly has been a teacher for 15 years and loves it! Harper attends the same school and she loves it just as much. We all love learning new things and sharing the things we learn with one another when we eat dinner together.
We live in a fun neighborhood that is right near many amenities. Parks, schools, shopping and movie theaters. We use all of them frequently. We have a large backyard that Harper and Milo love to play in. A trampoline, swing set and sandbox keep them busy for hours. We live in a three bedroom house with an open floor plan that keeps everyone together. We have lived here for four years and continue loving it.
Our weekends are spent working in the house together and then playing. We love to go to the movies, hang out at the park, go to Jump Time (a trampoline park) and visit with friends and family.
Finally, religion is important to us. We want our children to be knowledgeable about the world and also know that faith, love and charity are important values to have and continue to grow throughout their life. We want them to be able to make their own decisions based on love and knowledge, and knowing that we will always be there to help guide them the best we know how.
Since the beginning of our adoption journey, we have always had the faith and hope that something magical was going to happen.
“Somehow destiny comes into play. These children end up with you and you end up with them. It is something quite magical.” – Nicole Kidman (Adoptive Mother)
Thank you for this opportunity we have had to tell you about our family and considering us. We know a decision like this is not made lightly.
We have been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long time. We know that we will love our next child beyond measure.
