Update from Stuttgart, Germany!

Jun 17, 2019

Well we made it to Stuttgart! Germany has some beautiful scenery once you get out of the cities, lovely little mountain towns. We took a tour of some of the hillside vineyards on our first day here and yesterday went hiking in the Black Forrest (the site of some famous fairy tales like Hansel and Gretel!). The picture is taken in front of the house in Stuttgart where Roberto's grandmother lived in her childhood. She and her parents were forced to flee Germany in 1933 after the Nazis took power, they moved to the United States as refugees. Visiting her old house was a great experience and a wonderful insight into Roberto's family origin story. It's so important to know where you come from and understand family history, it's one of many reasons we're supportive of an open adoption - everyone should know where they come from.

Arrived in Germany!

Jun 13, 2019

Well we made it safely to Germany for our family vacation! Flying overseas can be tiring and we’ve definitely got some jet lag going on, but so far day 1 has been fun. We went a bike tour of the city Munich this morning which was a great way to get a feel for the city. Did you know that over 80% of the people who live here own bicycles? That’s an insane amount! They seem to be very health and environmentally conscious here in Germany which is great to see. It does make for crowded bike trails though. After our bike tour we visited BMW Welt which is the museum and visitor center for the BMW car factory. As you can see in the picture, Nicole found a car just her size! But wow are we tired now, we could probably fall asleep if aren’t careful, but we haven’t eaten dinner yet.

Busy weekend!

Jun 10, 2019

Wow, this has been a busy weekend for us! Saturday Nicole had a table set up at a local vendor fair where she was selling our farm fresh maple syrup and eggs - she sold a ton! But it was a warm day in the sun which is always tough (but we celebrated with sushi for dinner). Today we were volunteering at a local charity fundraiser all morning, Roberto volunteered as the event photographer and Nicole and her parents helped out at the snack and drink table. It was a busy day but we do this every year as a family to help support a really good cause! Of course we have to leave for Germany in 2 days so we also have to pack, clean the house, re-pack, make sure the lawn gets mowed, etc etc. So there's a little bit of stress . . . but we're really excited to be going on our trip! We'll be meeting up with Roberto's dad and brother over there which will be great. We know Roberto's dad will have a lot of questions for us about our adoption journey, he's VERY excited to be a grandfather!

Enjoying the nice weather

Jun 05, 2019

After several days of rain here in New York we've really been enjoying some nicer spring weather this week! Nicole's been able to take care of all our farm critters like the chickens and bees without getting covered in mud and we got some mountain biking in over the weekend for date night as mentioned in the first post. We picked a trail that LOOKED easy but ended up being pretty tough, so we were both pretty sore on Saturday morning. We've got a 2 week trip to Germany coming up next week so we need to start packing and making sure we have everything we need from Roberto's photo gear to clothes for roaming cities and probably a few mountains as well knowing us. We love to travel and are excited to share that part of our lives with a child!

First post!

May 31, 2019

Yay our first post on Adoption.com! Putting these profiles together is a lot of work, but well worth it. We're so excited to be parents and add a baby to our family! Nicole spent the afternoon taking care of the honey bees on our farm while I put together our profile and tonight we're excited for date night which will definitely include some mountain biking now that the weather here in New York is a little nicer.
