THE ASHMORE FAMILY

We are anxious to get to know you and include you as an important part of our family.

We value the strength is takes to consider placing your child in an adopted family. Thank you for looking over our profile. We understand you are searching for a family that fits the personal desires you have for your child and their future. We aim to provide you with an overarching impression of who we are, where we live, how we work and play, and who our loved ones are.

After 15+ years of infertility--including a tubal pregnancy and countless miscarriages--we feel guided to adoption as a way to welcome children into our home. We are anxious to get to know you and include you as an important part of our family.

OUR STORY

Andrew (39) is outgoing and fun, with an ability to instantly connect with anyone he meets. Rachel (39) is organized, observant, and sincere.

Easter Sunday 2024
We met and dated in Arizona, but moved to Idaho immediately after the wedding to attend school. In fact, our honeymoon consisted of stops along the drive north, U-Haul trailer in tow! We have been happily married for over 17 years and are the best of friends.

Andrew (age 39) has a master's degree in construction management and runs his own business as a general contractor. He specializes in custom homes and light commercial buildings. He also teaches adjunct BYU-Idaho courses on the side. Andrew is outgoing and fun, with an ability to instantly connect with anyone he meets. He dreams big, works hard, and is ever-considerate of others. At age 19, Andrew served a 2-year church mission in Hiroshima, Japan. Andrew’s passions are BYU sports, personal fitness, and mountaineering. Rachel especially appreciates his dimples and smiley eyes.

Rachel (age 39) has an A.A. degree in art, a B.A. in elementary education, and an M.A. in reading instruction and curriculum. She has been a 3rd grade teacher, adjunct professor, and is currently an art teacher. Rachel is organized, observant, and sincere. She thrives on anything that calls for creativity. She also plays the piano, and is passionate about photography. Andrew loves her sense of adventure and determination. She is the oldest of five sisters.

Charlie (age 8) was adopted as an infant. We will never forget the special experience in the hospital, meeting him and his wonderful birth family for the first time. Now in 2nd grade, he is the friendliest guy in all the land and loves to make people laugh. He plays the piano, wrestles, mountain bikes, and is currently taking a rock climbing class. Charlie is excited at the prospect of being a big brother.

Moose is our full-of-personality chocolate lab. He lives in the backyard. He is energetic, obedient, and loves people. In his spare time, he enjoys lying in the sun, fetching sticks from the river, and following Rachel around like a shadow.
OUR HOME

The 1,964 sq. foot home we designed and built ourselves, is backed by an open field and a green belt along the Teton River.

Yard work at our house
We live in a small, college town in Southeast Idaho. We appreciate the safe, family-focused community and the countless opportunities to play in nature in the nearby mountains and rivers. The 1,964 sq foot home we designed and built ourselves, is backed by an open field and a green belt along the Teton River. Farmer’s fields can be seen on all sides. We have a landscaped yard, fire pit, and a garden. Yet, despite the rural feel, it’s only a few minutes’ drive to town.

FAMILY VALUES

We center our home on the ideals of education, hard work, fun family adventures, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We love to play together...especially outside!
Together, we enjoy the outdoors…camping, hiking, biking, snowboarding, etc. We also like to build things in Andrew’s wood shop, read aloud, and get together with friends. We spend vacations exploring new parts of the U.S. and visiting our large extended families.

We believe in God and that His hand guides the details of our life. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, our faith is a big part of who we are. Because of our beliefs in the sanctity of marriage and family, we center our home on the ideals of education, hard work, fun family adventures, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Infertility has been difficult, but we have learned to trust in the Lord and believe that all will work out according to His will and timing. We pray for you as you make momentous decisions about placing your child with an adoptive family.

Favorites

A part of us will always miss the Arizona desert where we met and married. We love to go back and visit.
Andrew enjoys working out at the gym almost daily. Rachel...not so much. She prefers her yoga mat at home.
Andrew loves BYU sports. On big game days, he pulls out his flag for the front yard.
Our favorite vacation destinations are National Parks. This is Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park.
Tulips are Rachel's favorite. They made up her wedding bouquet and they're what Andrew buys her for special occasions.
Popcorn is our favorite! We make some every Sunday night.
Probably the only electronic game we play is "Scrabble with Friends." We almost always have a game going with each other and/or extended family.
We enjoy reading books aloud together. By far, our favorite has been the Harry Potter books. We've read the entire series twice.
Andrew served his 2-year LDS church mission in Japan. He loves the country and its people.
Comedian Brian Regan
Andrew loves his Sunday afternoon naps.
We love beautiful Idaho.
Rachel is a fan. We saw her concert in 2013 and 2023.
Between Andrew being a contractor and Rachel's dad being an architect...we both love to peruse and talk over house plans.
Enjoying summer evenings out on the lawn
Rachel is (seriously) addicted to taking pictures. Every year, we print our favorites into photo memory books.
One of our favorite things to do together is build stuff at Andrew's wood shop.
Rachel enjoys experimenting with new recipes and ingredients.
A favorite treat.
backyard summer barbecue
Camping
Traveling
We love Idaho.

Favorite Snack: Apples, PB, with granola. Every single day.

A Happy Easter

We celebrated Easter Sunday with good friends, good food, and some snogging!

#sundayselfie

The 5-year-old sitting on my lap in primary said: "You put your sweatshirt on backward. Know how I know? The hood is on the front!" Then he laughed at me like I was an idiot.

A Walk to the River

We love our backyard!

Happy 4th from the Ashmores

We actually got a few really nice family photos, but this outtake is our favorite. Moose couldn't understand why we wanted him to face away from us...and Andrew's "encouragement" to look in the direction of the camera was just super effective. :)
