Hiking Old Rag
We are Bekah and Jeremy and we are so excited to grow our family through adopting an infant. We have always had a heart for children and we cannot wait to begin our family through adoption. We are ready to provide for and love a child unconditionally and are trusting that God will build our family in His perfect timing.

We are ready to provide for and love a child unconditionally and are trusting that God will build our family in His perfect timing...no matter what our children are passionate about, we will be there to support them and be their biggest cheerleaders.

We met in high school and have been married for almost four years. We are originally from Massachusetts and we moved to Richmond, VA in 2015 to escape the crazy winters up north. We love Richmond and couldn’t imagine ourselves anywhere else. We love to stay active spending time outdoors hiking, running or walking around the city. We enjoy hosting dinners and game nights with friends and family.

We are fortunate to have the support of family and friends, all of whom have embraced our plans to adopt. Our hope is to have an open adoption because we understand that a child's birth parents are an important part of who they are.

Since moving to Richmond, we have become good friends with people through work and church. These friendships have made the transition to a new city so much easier and have helped us feel like Richmond is home. We are plugged into our church through Sunday morning services and our small group community. In addition to our amazing and wonderful family, we feel that we have found another family through our church. We know that our kids will not only be loved and taken care of by us and our families but by our entire church family as well. Our church has even devoted their resources specifically to support families built through adoption or foster care. We volunteer with a couple local organizations mentoring high school students and helping families at local hospitals.

Education is extremely important to us and our children’s education will always be one of our top priorities. We both have received Master’s degrees which has afforded us stable jobs and ultimately put us in a place financially to provide for a child or children. Seeing the value of a strong education in our own lives encourages us to be supportive of our future children in school and provide them with the best education possible. We look forward to advocating for them to pursue their dreams and help them achieve their education and career goals as best we can.

We cannot wait to see what our kids grow up to love and take interest in outside of education. We both grew up playing sports, which were not only fun but also provided amazing relationships and a sense of community that we still cherish today. Bekah grew up playing the piano and we have recently started painting for fun so no matter what our children are passionate about, we will be there to support them and be their biggest cheerleaders.

A typical weekend for us includes exercising, making food together, playing games, and exploring Richmond. In the fall, you can find us cheering on the Patriots Sunday afternoons with a home filled of family, friends and lots of food. We cannot wait to add a child and to experience life with them (and dress them up in Boston sports gear). We can imagine going on family walks down by the James River, enjoying family meals together, going on fun family vacations, taking our children to the Richmond Children’s Museum or to Flying Squirrels Baseball Games, and simply providing for, loving, and supporting our children no matter what. We are so excited to become parents!

Dear Expectant Parents

Dear Expectant Parents,

We are Bekah and Jeremy Schuh and we are so excited to add to our family through adopting a baby. We do not have any kids currently and adoption has always been a part of our plan to grow our family. We have felt called to adopt and our faith has played a significant role in this decision and we are excited to see where it leads.

Family is one of the most important parts of our lives. We believe that family is choosing to love no matter what and always being there for each other…..We also want to give our children every opportunity to find what they are passionate about in life.

We strongly believe that the timing for adoption is perfect for this stage of our lives and we are ready to provide for and love a child unconditionally. If you were to ask the people closest to us about our character, they would say we are genuine, generous, caring and loving people. We do our best to put others first and be respectful of all people. All of these are traits and strengths we want to instill in our children.

Family is one of the most important parts of our lives. We believe that family is choosing to love no matter what and always being there for each other. Our families have always been there to support and encourage us and we have leaned on them to help us through the challenges of life. Similarly, faith has been an essential part of both of our lives. It has given us strength and purpose and also helped us through our toughest times. We cannot even begin to imagine how difficult the decisions you are making must be, but we believe that God has a plan and a plan for our family. Our understanding of God continues to challenge us to love everyone and care for those around us. The churches we’ve been a part of have provided us valuable community and our current church has many diverse families that have been formed through adoption. We also rely on support from our closest friends who have always been there for us. Our hope is that we will build a strong friendship with our children and that they will grow into relationships that can provide them with the same support systems.

We both believe strongly that education is important and it is something that our parents instilled in us from a young age. Their commitment to our education pushed us to be curious learners and ultimately encouraged us to pursue our graduate degrees. Through our studies we developed interests and passions that have motivated us in our careers. Our promise to our children is that we will provide them with the best educational opportunities available. We also want to give our children every opportunity to find what they are passionate about in life. We will encourage our children to pursue sports, music, art or whatever they love. No matter what they choose, we will love and support them and be there to experience it with them.

We love to be outdoors and active through hiking, exploring and playing sports. We are excited to share our love for adventure with our children. When we’re not working, you can find us hiking around Belle Isle, driving out to Charlottesville for longer hikes or relaxing by the James River. You will almost always find us playing in local sports leagues (basketball, softball, etc.) or watching football after church on Sundays. We love to cook, try new types of food and explore local restaurants. We also love to host our families, friends and their kids for cookouts and potlucks.
We have grown up knowing people who were adopted and have become friends with a birth parent in an open adoption. Our child will always know that they are adopted and we will celebrate their adoption. We will also work through any feelings they may have about it and make sure they know that we love them and would do anything for them. Our hope is to have an open adoption so our child will continue to know you and have a relationship with you. We are open to talk and would love to answer any questions you have.

Sincerely,
Bekah and Jeremy

About Jeremy (Written by Bekah)

I’m going to take a minute to brag about my husband, Jeremy and tell you why I can’t WAIT to see him as a father. I have known Jeremy since 9th grade. I still remember the cute “new” boy in our class and I never imagined what an amazing journey I was about to be on to find my best friend and the love of my life.

I CANNOT WAIT to see the love Jeremy has for our child. Jeremy will be the BIGGEST cheerleader, encourager, homework helper, patient teacher, and most loving dad.

One of the things I love the most about Jeremy is his love and caring heart for everyone around him. Jeremy would literally do anything for not only his family and his friends, but for complete strangers. God has given Jeremy such a unique heart for people. You will never hear Jeremy talking badly or gossiping about someone as he assumes the best in people and is always giving people the benefit of the doubt. Because of his love for people, Jeremy is committed to giving his resources and his time to those in need—whether that be through helping out friends with odd jobs, giving rides to family members, volunteering with a mentorship program, or spending time chatting with a homeless person and getting to know them and how specifically he can help them. God has definitely used Jeremy to teach me about compassion and how to show His love to everyone around us.

I CANNOT WAIT to see the love Jeremy has for our child. Jeremy will be the BIGGEST cheerleader, encourager, homework helper, patient teacher, and most loving dad.

About Bekah (Written by Jeremy)

I will never forget the time I started to fall for Bekah. It was sophomore year of high school and a group of our friends went to see Shrek 2 in theaters (wow, that makes me feel old!). On the way to the movie a few of the guys, including myself, were fighting over who would get to sit next to Bekah.

She is constantly thinking about other people and making sure that no one is left out. Her devotion to family and friends cannot be outdone.

Fortunately, I was the lucky winner! I remember vividly that we were the last two in the row of our friends and we talked non-stop waiting for the movie to start – even through the previews. We joked and laughed and I knew I was in trouble, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. This was the start of getting to know my best friend and falling in love with the most incredible woman I know.

Other than being crazy beautiful, I admire and look up to Bekah in so many ways. She is the most thoughtful and loving person I know. She is constantly thinking about other people and making sure that no one is left out. Her devotion to family and friends cannot be outdone. Not only do I feel this in our marriage, but I know that others have felt blessed by her selflessness and friendship. Bekah is one of the most supportive people I know and I have never doubted for a second that she wouldn’t be there for me. I know that no matter what happens in life, she will always be my biggest fan.

Anyone who knows Bekah, knows that she doesn’t give anything less than 110% effort and this is an area in my life that she has impacted greatly. Whether it’s me chasing her on a jog or cleaning the apartment together, she is giving it her all and she never ceases to amaze me. She is the most driven and hard-working person I know. This is evident in the fact that she is one of the most challenging professions. She excels in high intensity situations and continues to impress me and her co-workers every day. Her passion for life and being active keeps me motivated to be a better person. As she does in all aspects of her life, I know that Bekah will excel at being a mother and any child that gets to call her mom will be lucky. She continues to amaze me every day and as we begin our family, I can’t wait to see our children grow up to be like their mom.
