We were able to take an extra-long weekend over Memorial Day and join Jeremy’s parents and sisters on vacation on the beach in Nags Head, NC.
We drove down Saturday morning and carpooled with Jeremy’s sister, Emily, who lives in Richmond along with her friend and boyfriend. Expecting to sit in a lot of beach traffic, we loaded up on coffee and snacks but were pleasantly surprised to hit NO TRAFFIC! Probably a first for a trip to the outer banks! This allowed us to meet up with Jeremy’s parents and sister, Olivia, grab subs for lunch, and hit the beach!
The house we were staying at was right on the beach so the majority of our days were spent hanging out on the beach. We played a lot of corn-hole (we went undefeated as teammates!), threw the football around, went on many beach walks, and went into the water numerous times. Coming from New England, we aren’t used to such warm water and I think we hit a record for how many times we went into the ocean. We also got some running in by chasing a run-away canopy (it was really windy one day). Thankfully no one was hurt but our canopy didn’t survive the journey. Thankfully Jeremy’s parents had a back-up that we used to get some shade as we read on the beach every afternoon.
We were able to go out for seafood one night to celebrate Jeremy’s mom’s birthday. It’s always fun to try out restaurants in new places and we chose a winner! We were able to get a windy group photo on the deck afterwards.
We also went mini-golfing one night with the whole family. Now, to give you some background, Jeremy loves to golf. He and his dad were actually able to golf one afternoon while we were down on vacation. Bekah, on the other hand, golf isn’t quite her thing, but despite that she got the second overall score AND a hole in one!
We had to come back to Richmond on Tuesday to work for the week but Jeremy’s family stayed down in North Carolina and stopped back in Richmond on their way home. The best part of that stop was when Jeremy’s sister’s boyfriend (now fiancé) Mark proposed to Emily in Maymont park. We were all there to celebrate the surprise and the newly engaged couple! What an eventful May we had!!
