Meet the Spencer’s
Hi, we're Rick, Traci and Sophie!
Thank you so much, for taking time to learn more about us! We are excited you are here. By “We” we mean Rick, Traci, and Sophie. We have been married for over 11 years. We met in late 2005. Both of us had had bad luck dating, so we were reluctant to be set up on a blind date but agreed to meet for lunch as long as our mutual friend came along. It took a few weeks to go on our first date, because Rick forgot to ask for Traci’s number after that lunch. Our mutual friend, who had her number, didn’t want to lose the power he held buy giving it up. We went mini golfing on our first date, and had a lot of fun. On the plus side, Rick actually remembered to get the digits this time! From that point on we were inseparable.
We knew long before we got married that Traci would not be able to carry a baby. At a young age she found out her ovaries were not formed correctly and had to have them removed to prevent potential issues in the future. We always knew that we wanted to have a family, and knew that adoption was the way we would be able to accomplish it. Through the miracle of adoption, we were blessed with our little girl almost 6 years ago, She is truly the center of our universe! She is an energetic and vibrant girl! She loves life and loves to be right in the thick of things. She loves to dance, sing, and perform. She is also in Karate and is loving it. She is extremely sweet and will make a wonderful big sister. She talks often about how excited she is for that time. We are lucky to have developed an amazing relationship with her wonderful tummy mommy (that is what Sophie calls her birthmama). We have always made sure that Sophie knows how much she is loved by her whole family, birth family included. We have a pretty open relationship with them and love it. Since they live out of state, we try to get together about once a year and visit. We are very excited to form a close bond with our 2nd childs birth family as well.
Traci’s life long goal has been to be a mother. She has spent her entire life developing the skills she needs to achieve it. In high school and college she studied early childhood development. She has worked at a day care, pediatric dentist office, and currently teaches preschool a few days a week. She is now living her dream, because she gets to be a stay at home mother. One of the things people notice first about her is her “way” with children. They seem to flock to her instinctively. She loves being a mother, aunt, sister and friend, and bends over backwards to do the best she can at it. She loves to be outside when its warm, doing crafts for the house with Sophie, decorating for any and all holiday’s (Including made up ones), and having dance parties while we do our cleaning. She loves spending as much time with family as possible. She has recently rekindled her love of yoga and Pilates. She also loves watching silly T.V. shows like “Psych”, “American Housewife”, and “Scrubs”. Her deepest darkest secret is that she is a “Gilmore Girls” ADDICT!
Rick is a ray of sunshine in our family. He always seems to know when one of us needs to be cheered up, and usually knows exactly how to do it. Whether it’s a funny voice, a silly song, a fresh diet coke (for Traci), or a big bear hug. He tries really hard to make us laugh, especially if we are grumpy. He is an extremely hard worker. He and his brother own a business together that keeps him busy during the day. On nights and weekends he still makes sure that he is with us, and does his part around the house. He is an amazing cook, and loves to do it. So most of the time Traci is off the hook for making dinner. He takes his role as daddy very seriously. He is happiest when he is with his family. He does his best to be a good example to Sophie, of what she should look for in a husband. He is the best husband and daddy anyone could ask for.
We Love Disney!
Our number one favorite thing as a family is DISNEY! We have made a rule in our home, that we must visit DisneyIand at least once per year. We were able to have annual passes for a few years, which made it so we could visit 3 times per year. Those were some magical times. We look forward to doing it again in the future. There is literally no place we would rather be. Rick and Sophie love to go on the more wild rides. Traci doesn’t. She has often fantasized of carrying a baby, in a wrap, and snuggling while she waits for them to finish a ride. We found an amazing family motto that is made up entirely of Disney quotes. We got a vinyl cut out of it, and it is on our wall where we see it every day. It reminds us of a few things, 1. that we are never too old to have dreams and reach for them! And 2. That we want to be in Disneyland.
Get to Know Us
We live in a wonderful part of northern Utah surrounded by tons of extended family. Grandchildren are the center of our parents world. An excellent example of this is when we first brought Sophie home. We were coming from out of state, and it was about a 12 hour drive. We really wanted to be home so decided to drive straight through. Our parents had made us promise that they could come and see Sophie the second we came home. We called to tell them that we would be home around 3:00 AM and told them that if they wanted to wait until the next day to meet Sophie we would understand. When we pulled in our driveway they were all sitting outside our house waiting for us! Our siblings have small children and couldn’t be there that early in the morning, but stopped by and decorated our house and left treats on our doorstep. We have a lot of love and support from both sides of our family!
We hope that you enjoyed getting to know us a little bit. We know that this is a difficult decision and one that you are not taking lightly. We know that only you know what is best for the child you are carrying. We fully support you, and love you for whatever decision you make!
