I have Russian roots! My Grandpa Reshatoff was the first born in America. Easter is the most important holiday in my Russian heritage. One of the best parts is the FOOD! Every year we make a sweet Easter bread called kulich. It is a lemon saffron sweet bread. If you could taste sunshine I think it would taste like kulich. It tastes best with melted butter and sometimes a kiss of honey. In this picture I am holding the rising dough triumphantly and impatiently because I want it to eat it but I have to wait until it is baked. Our other favorite foods for the occasion are lamb kabobs and rice pilaf.
