Two people share what life is like growing up in foster care. For some, having been born into the system, they know nothing else. They grow up way too fast, having to take care of themselves in so many ways. Often, kids in foster care also take care of their siblings.

The lack of caring and love creates feelings of apathy – as a way to protect one’s feelings. When apathy sets in, children and youth stop trusting and become hard to be loved.

The lack of safe, loving foster homes, with parents who truly want to help the children, creates circumstances that lead to abuse, neglect and decreased attention. There will always be a need for people who take in foster kids because they love them.
