What does open adoption mean for me and my child?

Open adoption is a relationship between the adoptive family and the birth family that includes some level of contact. Openness can range from sharing updates and pictures through your adoption agency to meeting face-to-face. Learn if open adoption is right for you.

If I find a family I would like to get to know better, how do I contact them?

You can contact a family by sending a note through our messaging system. If you’d rather speak to someone from an adoption agency about contacting a hopeful adoptive parent, you can fill out this Form.

Do I have to pay anything to use Adoption.com Parent Profiles?

No. This is a free resource for expectant mothers who are considering placing a child for adoption.

How do I know if the family I pick is approved for adoption?

Every family that has a profile listed on our site has completed a home check, background check, financial and medical checks, and has met all of the adoption requirements in their state. 

If I contact a hopeful adoptive parent, does that mean I am committed to choosing them?

No. You may reach out to as many families as you’d like. There is no obligation to commit to a family. If, at any point, they do not feel like the right fit for you and your baby, you can change your mind before placement.

Do I need to choose families from within my own state?

No. You may place your child with a family from any state.

Any family in the United States with a current, approved home study can create an Adoption.com Parent Profile.

How long do most hopeful adoptive parents stay on Parent Profiles?

Waiting times can range anywhere from 1 week to several years. There is no telling exactly how long it will take to match on Parent Profiles.

How much does it cost hopeful adoptive parents to have an active profile on your site?

When do I get charged for your services? Can I start a profile for free?

You will not be charged until your profile is activated. Billing will be on the 1st of each month.

If I deactivate my “Hoping to Adopt” profile, will my information be stored for future use?

Once you’ve deactivated your profile, your information will be stored in our database but will no longer appear on the site. You will still be able to log in to your account. If you’d like to reactivate your profile, simply log in, update your paperwork, and make any profile changes before requesting re-activation. 

Can hopeful adoptive parents post links to blog and social media sites on their profiles?

Yes, you can share links in the “About” section of your profile. Many of the families on Adoption.com Parent Profiles link to their family blog, adoption blog, or social media pages.

What tools are available to help hopeful adoptive parents identify and prevent potential adoption scams?

There is always a certain amount of risk involved. Learn to recognize the red flags of potential adoption scams. We recommend consulting with an adoption professional if you suspect scammer activity.

How many adoptions occur as a result of an Adoption.com Parent Profiles listing?

We don’t always know when a match takes place. Our current data is based on surveys submitted when users deactivate their Parent Profile. Deactivation may occur months before placement or finalization of an adoption. Adoption.com Parent Profiles℠ celebrates all adoption connections whether attributable to its services or other sources.

How will I know that my “Hoping to Adopt” profile is being advertised and viewed?

You can see how many visitors have been to your profile and their average visit duration, how many page views your profile categories have (Photos, Contact, Video, Letter, etc.), and where these visits are coming from. These statistics can be found in the “My Statistics” section of your profile when you are logged in.

Are hopeful adoptive parents guaranteed a placement as a result of listing on Adoption.com Parent Profiles?

No, but we are a great resource for increasing your exposure to individuals who may be considering placing their child for adoption.

As a hopeful adoptive parent, can I cancel my membership whenever I want?

Yes, you can cancel whenever you want, but please be aware that we do not issue prorated refunds. If you deactivate your account with us after the billing cycle for that current month, you will not be issued a refund for the days your profile is not Live that month. In order to ensure that you end your time of service with us before the next billing cycle starts, please deactivate your profile by the end of the month. All questions about deactivation can be directed to parentprofiles@adoption.com
