With only a year left to find a family, Shaleen is hopeful for the future. She is 17 and has a passion for the fashion industry. Originally she planned on attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California, but Shaleen decided the school was too far away. She is now narrowing her efforts to College of Southern Nevada or the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Shaleen’s foster mother, Deidra speaks to her strength and individuality. Shaleen has blossomed from a once timid young girl to an outgoing young lady who loves to talk. She has developed quite a giving personality. Deidra says, “The right home is just really nurturing, someone who has a lot of patience that can really help guide her properly again. She didn’t really get that opportunity and it would be nice for her to have someone who can really take the time out to just really share and let her be a part of their family.”
Shaleen is ready for adoption through Adoption Exchange at 702-436-6335
Adoption Exchange is an organization who helps foster children find permanent homes. Their focus is on helping those affected by traumatic abuse, neglect, or abandonment. They specialize in overcoming challenges based on a child’s age, being in a sibling group that doesn’t want to be separated, and those with physical or emotional issues. The group seeks to prevent the fate so many kids in foster care succumb to when they “age out” of the system with no family. Half of them don’t finish high school. Many of them end up on the streets or in jail. Adoption Exchange also provides web, email, and social media support for those in need. They pride themselves on the recruitment of families for these children who deserve a forever home.
