Several youth share their experiences through the foster care system. Heartbreaking, indeed are the reasons these kids were placed in foster care. Almost worse than that are the things that happened to them while they were being “taken care of” in state care. It’s appalling, sometimes, that children are thought of more as things than as people.

There are caring social workers in the foster care system in each state, but they are overworked. It’s too easy for children to slip through the cracks and not get the attention they need.

We can all help. Regardless of where one lives, becoming licensed as a foster care provider will make a difference. For those who cannot take on that responsibility, becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is also a way to help.
