Currently, Armenia does not have residency requirements for prospective adoptive parents. The only age requirement is that the adoptive parents are at least 18 years older than the child they wish to adopt. Before an Armenian child can be adopted internationally, s/he must be on the adoptable list for at least three months, providing Armenians more of a chance to adopt and keep the child within the country and culture. In 2011, approximately 22 children were adopted from Armenia by U.S. citizens.
