In Iran prospective adoptive couples must be Muslims, with no criminal records, no addiction to drugs or alcohol and no contagious and/or terminal disease(s). Couples must come to Iran to be fingerprinted and are subject to medical examination and provide statements of financial security. Couples must be married for a minimum of 5 years with no children. One of the adoptive parents must be at least 30 years old. Five children were adopted from Iran in 2011.
