The children available for adoption are those who have not been placed in a Turkish home. If the applicant is found eligible to adopt a child, he or she must take care of the child for a year, in Turkey. The prospective adoptive parent wanting to adopt a child under a year old must be between the ages of 30 and 40 and speak Turkish. Those within the age range who don’t speak Turkish can adopt a child 3 years old or younger. The applicant can adopt an older child if he or she is over the age of 40. If the applicants are married, they need to have been married for at least five years. The priority is given to childless married couples. However, if the married couple has children already, they are not longer eligible to adopt from Turkey. One child was adopted from Turkey in 2009.
