HelloA friend of mine ask if my husband @ I would like to adopt her baby she pregnet with,of course,anyway 91/2 years later well we never paid any adoption fees to social services so there for we never had a birthcertificate with the name@parentchange always used our last name though please someone plese help me please where do i start no one would try taking my son could they please help thank you so much:confused:
Find a very good adoption lawyer. Your child needs a birth certificate. Was the birth father ever notified about any of this?
This child is not legally yours. You need to find out how to change this. There are people who could take your child as their rights were never terminated.

If the birthparents are not attempting to reclaim the child, you probably don't have much to worry about. Obviously, you should've taken care of all the paperwork and made this adoption legal years ago, but what's done is done. I doubt the state would step in now and remove the child from your home, since he's been with you for nearly a decade and has already bonded. I agree with the other poster; contact an adoption attorney right away and find out what steps you need to take to make this adoption legal. Best of luck to you. ~Sharon
If you originally had guardianship papers, and the other parents have not stepped back in, there probably won't be too many complications. Be sure your lawyer is well versed in adoption law.
