We are in the process of adopting 2 children ages 3 and 11 months. We were aware that the 3 year old had some special needs and she has recently evaluated with possible Austism, Cerebral Palsy, PTSD, and RAD. This adoption is not one from FIA although the three year old has been in foster care and relative care. The birth Mom made an adoption plan in anticipation of termination of her parental rights.
Our adoption worker says since the children were not "caught in the foster care system" we are not eligible for adoption subsidy, but may qualify for medical subsidy. She says that because of our case the subsidy office is looking into changing thier policy, but we cannot benefit from that. Our daughter really needs her subsidy. I can think of all kinds of therapy we could offer her if we had the resources. Is there anyway we can fight for support subsidy before the adoptin is final?
Parental rights have been terminated, but adoption is not yet final--as our adoption worker wants to keep our file open to see if we may qualify for some other programs.
Is there anything any one can suggest about talkng to the subsidy office?
