Help please, need to change user name

i hate to admit this, but i don't know how to erase my cookies (lol!). i do think i can figure out how to delete my temp files. are they the same thing? can you ask your husband for technical assistance if you don't know? thanks very much!

Hi: For those that would like to know how to erase the cookies you have received on AdoptionForums you may learn how to erase your cookies on this link: [url]http://www.adoptionforums.com/misc.php?s=&action=faq&page=1#clearcookies[/url] There are two ways to erase cookies. One is to log off and come back in. Which can be accomplished by clicking on either the "Log out" link in the upper right hand corner on the home page for AdoptionForums. [url]http://www.adoptionforums.com.[/url] Or by clicking on the link at: [url]http://www.adoptionforums.com/misc.php?s=&action=faq&page=1#clearcookies[/url] that says click here to clear cookies. Once you have cleared your cookies you will need to log back in. You will need your password to log in. If you no longer know your password you may request it by clicking on the link in the upper right hand corner of [url]http://www.adoptionforums.com[/url] that says "Lost Password." Your password will be e-mailed to you within 10 minutes. The second way to clear your cookies is manually by doing the following for Internet Explorer 5 on Windows: Close all Internet Explorer windows. Click the "Start" button. Move up to "Find" and click "Files or Folders" from the menu that appears. In the new window that appears, in the "containing text" field, type in the domain name of the board without the "http://" or "www." part. For example, if the board's address was "http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/index.php", I would type in "vbulletin.com" (without the quotes) In the "look in" box, type in "C:\Windows\Cookies\" (without the quotes) and press "Find Now" After it has finished searching, highlight all files (click a file, then press CTRL+A) and delete them (press the "delete" key or SHIFT+DEL) Your cookies should now be removed. You may want to restart the computer and revisit the board to be sure. I think the first option I typed above is easiest ~ smile. Another easy way to delete cookies is to go to TOOLS...(very top of your screen above the forward arrow) Then INTERNET OPTIONS, another window should open.....and you should see DELETE COOKIES...and DELETE FILES. Hope this works, Teresa

this might be easier: go to 'find files' type in 'temp internet' and click 'find' or 'search' then you will get a few choices, you want to pick 'temp. internet files' and click. then all the places you were at come up and you have to delete them all. easiest way to do this, is go to file and hit 'select all' then hit the delete key. thats it. dadfor2

oh, teresa's way is great, however, they dont remove all the files. most of them, but not all. if you want ALL the files removed, you have to do it manuel. You might want to do teresas way first, then just double check with doing it manuelly. (see instructions on my last post). dadfor2

Click on the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. You can send a message to "administration" and ask them to change it for you. Give them the new member name you want to use. We are unable to change this name ourselves.

You're welcome. :D As I understand it, the administrators work only during the day so you probably won't hear from them until tomorrow. They responded the next day to my request and it was changed promptly.

DL, Thank you for noticing. This name is fine but on Adoption.com they can't change it. So, if my birthmother typed in Georgia Kelley for a search nothing would come up. I guess I have to unsubscribe then re-enter EVERYTHING according to an email I got. If you know of any way to avoid having to do all this please, let me know. I await your reply. Amy, Sorry for the delay. Email me at Admin@adoptionmedia.com if you want your username changed. Keep in mind that if you are using the forums to search, your actual posts show up on search engine results, so posting the information you think she will be looking for will be as good as having your username be information useful in your search. ( I hope that makes sense :rolleyes: ) Let me know if you would like to have it changed.
