My husband and I are in the process of adopting a sibling group from Ma and we are from NY. My husband recently ran into some trouble and was arrested. If convicted he will have 3 felonies on him and be going to jail. Our attorneys are sure he will be found innocent and he hasn't even been indited yet. we think all the charges will be dismissed. If they are will we still have a chance to adopt? I've talked to both social workers in both states and they tell us it all depends if the charges are dropped or he is found innocent. I know everyone must say this but he actually is not guilty. Our luck has been terrible this past year and I really don't know how much more disappointment we can take. thanks. D in Ny
I'm not sure of the specific laws of your state but in my process the stipulations on adoptions are that the prospective adoptive parent must not have been CONVICTED of any felonies in regards to child abuse, or domestic violence...offenses of that nature....check up on the courts website in your state to find out the instuctions for adoption. This may help. I feel for your situation...bad luck seems to come at the most in oppertune times!
