I was born in Cebu City on June 2, 1981 to Maria Lourdes Gabumpa(18 at the time) and Cenes Rein Espinosa (22 at the time). Due to financial reasons, they decided to give me up for adoption to Jack and Cindy Cates of IN, United States. My birth name was Bethany Gabumpa Espinosa, but the Cates family changed my name to Summer Cates. Before I was born Maria had met an American missionary named Carrie Hunsberger. She was the connection to the Cates family. I was adopted in Sept. of 1981. I know that Maria was 1 of 7 siblings, so I have aunts and uncles too.
