Hi
My husband and I are in the process of waiting to find out our first travel date. Our paperwork was sent to Russia on August 20, 2003...waiting is the hardest part. Is anyone else in the same stage ? I have connected with some couples who adopted from this same region and they only had 2-4 weeks between their 2 trips, which is amazing, as some regions it is much longer. "Nikita" is currently 7 months old and we are just so excited beyond words. Hope to hear from anyone.

Cheryl,
We are sort of at the same stage of the process. Russian adoption. We have received our referral, a "young" infant boy who is in Vladivostok. We were not given a name or any other specific info, we will get that when we get there. This seems strange to me. We got the call on Thurs 9/11 and have finalized our travel plans. We were not given specific dates to travel, we were just told to travel as soon as we could. Sounds like you received your child's name and a photo? I don't understand why some people receive photos/videos and others don't.
Where is your region?

hi becky
we did receive our referral first. i know some adoption agencies do things different, and i dont know why. good luck with your travel....vladivostock is very far away.....keep me posted. do you know anything else about the baby boy, age or anything. did they indicate when your 2nd trip would be ? if not, i think they give you some parameters when you get there. keep in touch

Is the region you are adopting from Samara? I am not adopting from there, however my male friend spent a month in Samara on business. I can tell you it is a college town yet still a very poor country and it is quite aways from Moscow . They stayed at what they call a four star motel, he is over 6'3 and had to push what appeared two toddler size beds together. The highlight of thier stay was McDonalds. It is very difficult & expensive to make out going calls it was aprox $20 a min he had a calling card but could not figure out how to use it & could not understand the operator. Needless to say he did not call home much. Now they had a very hard time getting through customs when they first got there as nobody understood English. Other then that they had a hard time adjusting to the time change as I am thinking they were 8 hours ahead of us so they got very little rest however they were safe and in the end very happy to get home. Needless to say he told me if I adopt from Russia under no circumstances would he travel with me. MEN
Good luck .....
Hi, I was glancing at all the posts when I noticed Samara. We adopted our son, then 9 mths, he is now 6 from Orphanage Number One in Samara.
Just a note about the videos. We were told by our agency that videos were not available from this area. Thus, we accepted a photo referral only. When we arrived in Samara, all other 12 couples who traveled with us had received videos except for us. Needless to say, we were concerned after hearing this and we had not yet met our child. If I were you, I would really really push your agency for a video so you can show it to your pediatrician prior to accepting the referral. Long story short, we did not accept the child referred to us due to developmental delays but took another child who was in the same orphanage. A video would have revealed these issues.
If you have any other questions, please let me know. Good luck!

Cheryl,
We are more or less in the same position! Our referral is for a infant boy in Rostov! He is 7 months and a real cutie! All of our paperwork is in Russia and all we need is travel approval. Andrew came off the database in September, so am told there is a 4 month wait...Do u know anything about this? Hope to make trip 1 at end of Dec!

Hi Lisa,
This post you answered is old, we actually completed our adoption in November, 2003 ! However, we are in the midst of our second adoption now, believe it or not ! Our son's biological sister, in the same orphanage, and she is 6 months old now ! We should be traveling back to Samara in Feb/Mar 2005. Good luck to you. Our baby girl did come off the data bank in Oct, 2003, however, there is some russian law that we have to wait for 6 mos after parental rights were waived, so we can travel until after jan, 2005. I think it has to do with if the mother did not sign to waive her rights and the court waived them, you may have run into this same issue, which is common. Good luck.
Cheryl
I am gathering information about adoption in Samara. Can anyone give me some good links or ideas on agencies to go with ? Thanks, LeeAnn in MN
LeeAnn-
Come visit us in the Russia forum...lots of good info there.
We adopted our son from Samara almost a year ago...great region. Last I knew, there were only two agencies working in Samara for US adoptions...Amrex agencies and Frank. There may now be one more, but I am not certain.
PM me if you would like more info...
Hi,
Saw your post and am also looking for information on Samara as this is where my agency now wants to send me after a lost referral. If you don't mind sharing, were you able to find information about the region? Thank you!
